Let me guess, you are planning your Dallas, Fort Worth or Aledo newborn session and you want something different this time? Or maybe this is your first newborn session that you are planning, but you don’t want it to look like everyone else’s out there. I get that, I really do.
There was a time in my career where I thought I had to fit into a certain box and make my work look like everyone else’s, but then I had the realization that my work is just that MY WORK. God gifted me with a unique personality, unique talents, and an eye that is just my own.
The same goes for you – your newborn session is YOURS. It doesn’t need to look a certain way or fit into a certain mold. It should reflect your family and what this current season of life looks like for y’all.
Why Personality Matters
These photos are something that you will have for the rest of your days. They are something that you will look at to remember, to reflect, and to relive. When you do that, you should be able to look at images that tell your story. Images that reflect each of your family member’s unique personality.
Is your 5 year old really into playing Trouble right now? Let’s bust it out at the session. No, your newborn can’t play Trouble, but you can snuggle your newborn while you are playing trouble with your 5 year old. That’s what you do on the daily anyways, right?
Choose the right setting
The world is your oyster – or in this case, your neighborhood is your canvas. Did you know that you aren’t limited to a studio or your home for your Aledo newborn session? You can also choose the neighborhood park, the coffee shop down the street, or your backyard.
If your family finds themselves choosing to stay at home when they have the choice of what to do – maybe home is the best place! Or maybe you love being at home, but it doesn’t have the best light – let’s stay home, but go outside. You don’t have to have the perfect landscaping or the greenest grass – that’s okay. You have the toys they love to play with, the patio you like to hang out on, or the front steps you walked up to bring your baby home – and those things mean something!
Wardrobe that speaks to you
Needless to say, what you wear matters. It matters because it should be things that you feel comfortable and confident in. Don’t get me wrong I love a good neutral palette, but that’s because it’s what you will find in my closet. If you look at your closet and don’t see a lot of neutral items, that probably means you don’t gravitate toward natural items. Choose things that you do gravitate towards!
Do you love patterns – wear them! I can help you coordinate patterns that work well together.
Not a dress person? Don’t wear a dress!
Your husband isn’t a sweater guy? Let him wear a pocket tee.
You get the point – you don’t have to wear x, y, and z. You can wear a, b, and c for your Aledo newborn session – or whatever that looks like for you ;).
INcorporate meaningful details
When you think about what makes your 3 year old them – what comes to mind? Is it their favorite lovey that they carry around? Is it the one toy that they insist on playing with over and over and over? Is it the song that is a constant request? Whatever it is – let’s make sure we include it!
Do you all have a Saturday morning tradition of getting donuts or making pancakes? If you do, let’s do it during your session!
Let’s make memories, not just photos
