When a family reaches out and tells me they have a family full of boys, I know its going to be a blast. With boys, its rare that I have to ask for them to move or play.

I’m going to be honest with you for a second…
.
I get THE BIGGEST decision fatigue when it comes to what to post on here.
.
It’s so easy for me to get caught up in all the variables…
.
- will this post make someone stop scrolling and click that heart?
-will this photo motivate people to reach out about a session?
-will this photo prove that I’m worth what I have to offer?
-will this photo attract the right clients that will appreciate my work?
-will this photo be interesting enough to let Instagram know it’s worth showing to more than 10 of my followers?
.
Ultimately, no matter what the answers to these questions are, I’m still going to create work that I’m proud of. I’m still going to create work that is beautiful to me and hopefully my clients. I’m still going to pursue this dream.
.
But honestly, I sometimes wish that I didn’t have to factor IG into the equation bc MAN, this is exhausting.

Reflecting on things I’ve learned over the last 30 years.
.
1. People are one of the few things in life that cannot be substituted.
2. Your walk with the Lord looks different in different seasons, and that’s okay as long as you’re still seeking Him.
3. When you can’t make travel happen, books based in other places are the next best thing.
4. True community takes effort, but it’s more than worth it.
5. Getting to love other people’s children is a gift.
6. Daily rhythms can be a relief and a burden sometimes.
7. Being able to accept help in any form is a sign of growth.
8. A daily dose of sun is a necessity.
9. Self awareness in parenting is humbling but also a sign that you are doing something right.
10. Seeking out a space around your home that helps ground you is highly beneficial.
11. Doing life alongside friends in the same season is something that shouldn’t be taken for granted.
12. Stopping to reflect on your own growth is not only helpful for you, but the people around you, too.
13. Intentionally keeping old friendships alive is worth it. There is something special about someone loving you through different seasons of life.
14. Doing things at your own pace is okay, but really.
15. Worrying does not change the outcome of anything, more than likely it makes it harder/worse.
16. Showing up for people unprompted takes courage, but will break down barriers swiftly.
17. Write down people’s coffee orders/fave things as you learn them - it makes loving on people easy in the future
18. Quality over quantity is a hard practice to learn, but you’ll be thankful when you do.
19. Take the trip!
20. Set realistic expectations for yourself and your family.
21. Shepherding your children is not a burden the Lord meant for you to carry alone.
22. Learning scripture doesn’t have to be a daunting scholarly task, but rather a daily rhythm that can be incorporated into the ordinary moments.
23. Practical shoes are the way to go.
24. Memories & experiences make the best gifts.
25. Changing your mind is okay.
26. There is a big difference between room temperature butter and cold butter in a recipe.

So, in case we haven’t met, I’m Lakin! Also known as mama to my 2 little boys.

I’m a Vol fan through and through (East TN native 🧡).

Nine times out of ten, you’ll find Birkenstocks on my feet and a claw clip in my hair.

I constantly have some random home project up my sleeve - or about 3 that are unfinished, oops.

I’m an avid fiction reader (pls don’t ask me to read nonfiction 😅😅).

Hi, IG world! It’s been a while since I popped on your feed with a photo of myself. . So, in case we haven’t met, I’m Lakin! Also known as mama to my 2 little boys. . I’m a Vol fan through and through (East TN native 🧡). . Nine times out of ten, you’ll find Birkenstocks on my feet and a claw clip in my hair. . I constantly have some random home project up my sleeve - or about 3 that are unfinished, oops. . I’m an avid fiction reader (pls don’t ask me to read nonfiction 😅😅). . While I edit you’ll catch me watching @survivorcbs or blaring @noahkahanmusic . . As a photographer, the actual shooting is my jam.
