Children are weird, wild, and wonderful. Letting go of the expectation that they need to sit still will take your session to the next level. In fact, encourage them to. Be weird with them.If you’ve been here a while, you know that I firmly live in the camp that real > perfect. A hill I will die on.Your home will never be perfect. Did you read that? Read it again. Your home will NEVER be perfect. So stop waiting for it to be and just book the session. Neat & tidy is great and appreciated. Perfect is never expected or wanted. We are weird around here, remember.I’m all for you reaching your health goals - but not when it comes at a cost to documenting your family in the HERE & NOW. Your kids don’t care if you are wearing an XL or XS - they care that you are there and in the memories with them.GET THE PHOTOS OFF YOUR PHONE! Those pretty little things deserve the spotlight - don’t put baby (your photos) in the corner (of your camera roll). I can help with this 😉When your kids are grown up and reminiscing on their childhood - don’t make them wonder what mom looked like when she was 35.

It doesn’t matter if you are in your pajamas, your hair resembles more of a rat’s nest than sleek locks, or the bags under your eyes look like you went on a $5000 shopping spree.
.
Your kids won’t care - and you won’t either in 15 years.I’m all for flexibility and rolling with the punches, but when it comes to kids and photo sessions, they deserve to be set up well.
.
That means full bellies & successful naps (if at all possible).
.
I work around the sun, but I also work around your kiddos nap schedule. 😉Hear me out on this - I LOVE a Christmas card as much as the next person, but can I suggest you take the photos and let the card be a fun bonus.
.
I’m here to tell your family’s story not deck your neighbor’s halls. I’d rather deck yours (with the beautiful photos from your session).

Today my youngest had his 2nd ever basketball game (well any kind of game for that matter) and whew, let me tell you basketball at this age is not for the faint of heart.
.
My youngest is not quite like my oldest when it comes to sports, or really anything for that matter.
.
My oldest is a bit of a spitfire (IYKYK). He usually jumps into everything head first. He is game for adventuring and doesn’t think twice about a challenge.
.
My youngest is a little more reserved about it all. He needs a bit of coaxing sometimes, a little more encouragement.
.
A little more hand holding.
.
Today my youngest needed a hand out on the court. I think we all need a little handholding sometimes.
.
I think maybe some of yall out there need a little handholding when it comes to family photos.
.
And guess what? That’s okay!

I’m here to hold your hand! Whether it be in the booking process, the outfit coordinating piece, or during the shoot.

Can I tell you a secret?
.
This is probably against Instagram code, if that’s a thing.
.
But I think I cheated the system and I’m nothing if not an honest Olive 🫒.
.
I outsourced my social media for a bit. 🙈
.
And let me tell you - it was SO NICE to have something taken off my plate, BUT….
.
I think it came at a cost.
.
Looking back at my posts over the last little bit and I can easily say I think I failed you.
.
I wasn’t authentically showing up here in this space - I was trying to check a box and just push through.
.
It wasn’t without good reason - this space really drains me sometimes. It’s a time suck, and most days it just gives me a headache.
.
BUT …
.
One thing I ask of my clients is to show up to their session (or open their front door) and be authentically themselves.
.
I want the real you. The dog pile, fort building, snack eating, couch cuddling YOU.
.
So, if I’m going to ask that of you, I’m going to need to give that myself.
.
I do a good job of that during a session, but this space is kinda hard for me on that front.
.
If I can’t get the words just so or if I have a hard time picking which image to put at the first of the carousel, or if I I’m being super critical of my work I just delete the draft.
.
Do you ever do that? Just click the delete button bc you can’t get it perfect?
.
What if it wasn’t meant to be perfect, but rather authentic?

I think I’m on to something.
.
So here’s to not overthinking and showing up when and how I can.
