In my 10 years of photographing families I have learned that the best sessions end up being the ones where kids are comfortable and feel like they have the freedom and space to be themselves. If you have a child, you know that they have minds of their own. If kids feel like they are in charge (but it’s really the parent in charge) everyone usually wins. So, with this in mind, the concept of a Dallas backyard family session was born.

Why Dallas Backyard Family Sessions are a Win for EveryonE

Kids Feel Comfortable
As mentioned earlier, during a session, you want to make sure that kids feel like they have some control over the situation. More often than not, if kids feel like they are in control, they are going to be more likely to cooperate. What better place to make them feel safe and in control than at their own stomping grounds, aka their backyard?
When kids feel comfortable they are going to be more relaxed, and therefore they are going to do what they do – play! When kids play, they are expressive, carefree, and genuine – and that right there is a recipe for photo success. I truly believe that you see the most genuine version of your kid when they are playing. And over here at LSP, that is the way I want to document kiddos – genuinely. Dallas backyard family sessions open the door to a world of giggles, laughter, and excitement.

No Travel Stress
One big perk of at-home family photos in Dallas, especially for moms, is that you don’t have to travel anywhere. No mom math to try to figure out what time you need to get everyone dressed so you can get out the door on time. No fighting rush hour traffic. No worrying about your kiddo staining their outfit with some mysterious substance on the car ride to the location. No getting to the session to realize your 3 year old is missing their left shoe. I mean no travel stress alone should be reason enough to opt for a Dallas backyard family session.

Backyard Family Session Sentimental Value
When my husband and I purchased our home, we wrote a letter to the sellers about how much this home would mean to us. I painted a picture of what I envisioned for our family if we were able to purchase the home. I talked about our future children shooting basketball in the backyard, running through the sprinklers in the front yard, and playing hopscotch in the driveway. That letter must have struck a chord with the sellers because those “future children” are now real life children that do those very things. It’s not lost on me how special it is to have a home and space for them to run wild and free in, and I’m guessing it’s not lost on you either. Having photos of your children doing the things that they love most in the very place that they took their first steps, ate their first bit of real food, and sleep tin their big bed for the first time is priceless.
