Whimsical Wedding Inspiration

Back in February, I put together a styled shoot that was full of summer, whimsical wedding inspiration at The White Dove Barn in Beechgrove, Tennessee. The styled shoot was published today on Burnett’s boards, you can see the publication here.

In addition to sharing the images with you all, I wanted to share some of the backstory! The cold winter months are my worst nightmare. I love the warmth and color that spring and summer bring; so, I decided to make that happen myself. I wanted to create something whimsical and a little bit feminine. I feel like there has been a big focus on all things modern as of late, so I wanted to remind everyone of the beauty of feminine elegance.

Design Inspiration

This shoot took place at a brand new wedding venue in Beechgrove, TN just outside of Nashville. The wedding I photographed a few weeks ago took place at the venue (be on the lookout for that blog post soon!). As soon as I looked the venue up, I fell in love with it.That is where my vision for this shoot began. This white washed barn instantly reminded me of Joanna Gaines and all things shiplapped. My design inspiration for this whimsical wedding was a bright spring or summer day. I was so tired of the cold dreary months, and I was longing for the bold and bright beauty that spring brings! When I was planning this shoot, I kept coming pack to a picnic on a warm day in May.

Colors

The colors highlighted during this shoot were peach echo and dusty blue with pops of pale yellow. I wanted something with a little bit of pop, but nothing that was overwhelming. I believe that the flowers tied the whole shoot together. They brought in the freshness of spring with the greenery, and added a nice pop of color that played into the whimsical theme. The bouquet was vibrant and brought life to the day. These pretty spring tones were the perfect accent to the white of the barn.

Cakes

There were two cakes for the shoot. One was a trendy color drip cake and the other a feminine lace cake that complimented each other nicely.

The Dress

The dress was The Altar by Lela Rose. It was a gorgeous thin strap gown with floral detail. I loved how the florals on the dress also played into the spring/summer theme.

Something Unique

Something unique about the shoot was the 15 foot hand letter banner. A banner hung behind the table scape. The banner read part of a poem by E.E. Cummings “yours is the light by which my spirit’s born: yours is the darkness of my soul’s return – you are my sun, my moon, and all my stars”. White, cream, and blue china made up the tablescape. The china contrasted beautifully with the gold flatware, adding a nice pop to the white washed farm table. It also included pink and blue glass goblets to add color/dimension to the table.
